Marcel "Mike" Drapeau โ€” director, mentor, and the heart of The Alumni Band

"Once you played for him, you were part of his musical family for life. Every note we play is a continuation of that belief โ€” and this scholarship is his legacy, carried forward."

The Alumni Band

Who Was Marcel "Mike" Drapeau?

Marcel "Mike" Drapeau spent his life in music โ€” not just as a performer, but as a teacher and mentor who believed deeply that music should be part of a person's life long after graduation. As director at St. Louis High School and Thornton Academy, he shaped the musical lives of countless students across the Biddefordโ€“Saco area.

Mike had a rare gift: the ability to make every student feel like music was written specifically for them. He saw potential where others saw noise, and turned raw enthusiasm into genuine artistry. For decades, his bands were a source of community pride in Southern Maine.

When Mike passed away on January 2, 2001, The Alumni Band knew the best way to honor him was to continue his mission โ€” supporting young musicians who share his passion, his commitment to music, and his love of community.

Mike believed that once you played for him, you were part of his musical family for life.
