Marcel Mike Drapeau with Danielle — honoring his musical legacy

Why We Created This Scholarship

Marcel "Mike" Drapeau spent his life in music — not just as a performer, but as a teacher and mentor who believed deeply that music should be part of a person's life long after graduation. As director at St. Louis High School and Thornton Academy, he shaped the musical lives of countless students in the Biddeford–Saco area.

When Mike passed away on January 2, 2001, The Alumni Band knew the best way to honor him was to continue his mission — supporting young musicians who share his passion and commitment to music and community.

Today, the Marcel "Mike" Drapeau Alumni Band Scholarship carries his name and his values forward — every year, a deserving student receives support to continue their musical education, just as Mike would have wanted.

"Mike believed that once you played for him, you were part of his musical family for life. Every note we play, and every scholarship we award, is a continuation of that belief."
