About The Band

The Alumni Band

Based in Biddeford, Maine, The Alumni Band is celebrating its 33rd year with more than forty musicians of all ages.

The band began in 1989 when two alumni groups—St. Louis School and Thornton Academy—formed for milestone celebrations. With Marcel “Mike” Drapeau as their shared director, the two ensembles combined in 1990, blending brass, percussion, and woodwinds into one powerful sound. Their debut concert was held that spring, followed by performances at anniversary events and Biddeford’s La Kermesse Festival.

Later that year, the group officially became The Alumni Band, dedicated to entertaining the community and promoting music education. Membership opened to any musician beyond high school age, regardless of school ties.

Under Mike Drapeau, the band became one of the busiest community ensembles in Maine. Following his passing in 2001, devoted directors and members have carried on his legacy. Today, under the leadership of Danielle Allie, The Alumni Band continues to march, perform, and share the joy of music.
